We’ve finally had our first participant from the “anglosphere”, @Paul_T (welcome!). I am really glad about this, as the conversation about RPGs in Italy tends to be rather insular. Breaking the language barrier might be of use for everyone here.
Please note that while the main language of discussion of this forum is and will remain Italian, the topics themselves are related to playing RPGs in general, and not playing RPGs specifically in Italy or in the Italian language.
Fortunately, we are aided in this matter by the advancement of automatic translation technology. I recommend to everyone the use of DeepL Translate, a tool which is really good at picking up tone, idioms, and hard-to-translate expressions, and is much superior to anything else available for free. It will still have problems with hobby jargon, but it will do a decent job.
For our Italian-speaking patrons

If you can only speak Italian, just write normally as you would. There is no expectation of extra work on your part when interacting on this forum with anyone.

If you can provide an English (or other) translation for your text when a non-speaker of Italian is participating, feel free to do so, but don’t feel obliged, and only do so if you’re confident about your language skills and think you can do a better job than DeepL. Always lead the post with the Italian version.
I ask that you do not answer posts without Italian text – this will decrease accessibility for monolingual Italian-speakers.
For our non-Italian-speaking patrons
You have two options,

Write the post in any language you feel comfortable with, and include an automatic translation with DeepL – please keep both versions if the message has any complexity, as it allows us to compare your original message in case the auto-translator messes up.

Answer posts in English – I am fully Italian-English bilingual and will add a translation for you whenever I see your post.
If you’re using an automatic translator to read other users’ posts, please note that software can only do so much. If you’re unsure or need a translation for something that the automatic tool can’t provide, please send me a private message and I will help you out. Please also note that there have been public cases of software translators getting things very wrong, so be extra charitable when interpreting what you’re reading.
Note on grammatical gender
Please note that the gender-neutral language (e.g. ‘folks’, singular ‘they’) which is popular with English speakers is impossible to localize in standard Italian – most words are grammatically gendered, following a declension, with a choice of female, male, and traces of latin neuter. Grammatical gender does not necessarily imply the gender of the person you’re referring to – the Italian words for “person”, “watchman”, “guide”, “sentinel” are always female-gendered, for example, and all inanimate objects have a grammatical gender as well.
There is an ongoing discussion within the larger community of Italian speakers on how to speak gender-neutral Italian, however I would consider discussing this off-topic for this forum.
You will also notice we are confused on how to gender new loanwords from English that refer to non-persons, and we just tend to do it inconsistently and based on instinct.

Nous avons enfin eu notre premier participant de l’Anglosphère, @Paul_T (bienvenue!). J’en suis très heureux, car en Italie les échanges au sujet des jeux de rôle ont tendance à être plutôt insulaires. Briser la barrière de la langue pourrait être utile à tout le monde ici.
Veuillez noter que si la langue principale de discussion de ce forum est et restera l’italien, les sujets eux-mêmes sont liés au jeu de rôle en général, et non au jeu de rôle spécifiquement en Italie ou à la langue italienne.
Heureusement, nous sommes aidés en cela par les progrès technologiques de la traduction automatique. Je recommande à tout le monde d’utiliser DeepL Translate, un logiciel trés capable de capter de manière extrêmement efficace le ton, les expressions idiomatiques et les expressions difficiles à traduire, et qui est de loin supérieur à tous les autres outils disponibles gratuitement. Il aura toujours des problèmes avec le jargon des jeux de rôle, mais il fera un travail décent.

Gardez à l’esprit qu’il y a eu des cas publics de logiciels de traduction faisant de très grosses erreurs, soyez donc très charitable lorsque vous interprétez ce que vous lisez.
Note sur le genre grammatical
Je fais remarquer que le langage épicène (par exemple “folks”, “they” au singulier) qui est populaire parmi les anglophones est impossible à localiser dans l’italien standard – la plupart des mots ont un genre grammatical, suivant une déclinaison, avec un choix entre le féminin, le masculin et des traces du neutre latin. Le genre grammatical n’implique pas nécessairement le genre de la personne à laquelle on fait référence – les mots italiens “persona”, “guardia”, “guida”, “sentinella” sont toujours déclinés au féminin, par exemple, et tous les objets inanimés ont un genre grammatical.
Il y a une discussion en cours parmi les italophones de naissance sur la façon de s’exprimer de manière épicène, mais je considérerais ce sujet comme hors sujet pour ce forum.
Vous remarquerez également que nous avons tendance à nous embrouiller sur le genre à appliquer aux nouveaux emprunts à l’anglais qui ne font pas référence à des personnes, et nous avons tendance à le faire de manière incohérente et instinctive.

Rispondete ai messaggi in inglese – sono completamente bilingue in italiano e in inglese e aggiungerò una traduzione quando leggerò il messaggio.
Se usate un traduttore automatico per leggere i post degli altri utenti, per favore tenete in considerazione che il software può solo arrivare fino a un certo punto. Se siete insicuri o necessitate una traduzione per qualcosa che lo strumento automatico non riesce a rendere, mandatemi un messaggio privato e vi aiuterò. Prego di tenere a conto che ci sono stati casi pubblici di software di traduzione che hanno fatto errori molto grossi, quindi siate molto caritatevoli quando interpretate ciò che state leggendo.
